I went hiking!
I've been meaning to climb Sobi Hill since January (!) but because I like my house best, I finally did in October. Sobi Hill is a 1,300-foot climb and is supposedly the highest point in the city of Ilorin. Boy did I see people ‘praying on the mountain’. I didn't even know Muslims did that. Also, I noticed that Ilorin has less brown roofs than Ibadan.
If you want to read about climbing up the hill with pictures, you can read this guy’s blog post. Pleasant surprise: he writes about places to visit in Nigeria.
Anyways, today at a glance:

Twitter 🤝🏾 Brain Corrosion
Not long ago, I deleted Twitter and Instagram (all the social media I use) because I was just sick of it all. In my case, the value-to-noise ratio was too low to justify using them.1
Several months have passed since then but I'm back there, and for another reason: social media reconfigures your brain for the worse. Shit corrodes your brain.
I had a conversation with a friend recently, and something they said that stood out? “Depravity creeps in.” If I'm not giving time to things that matter, I'm unconsciously building up on rubbish and folly. And guess the supply of hot nonsense? Honestly, I need my brain space for other things.
So, this week, I've been getting back into old habits of watching TED talks because I like them and reading long blog posts because, well, I like them. There are other places to get information from. The same friend has been preaching to become a Cal Newport disciple aka going off Twitter forever. I should probably listen.
Stay sane, folks

I was finally able to focus on a book! And a physical one too. It's Men Are From Mars, Women Are From Venus by John Gray.
Going off reviews on Goodreads, it's sexist. Like really sexist. I’m at chapter 3, and more than anything, I find the book amusing. Of course, there are things to learn but it reinforces stereotypes as helpful and misleading as they can be.
For me, when shit hits the fan, I definitely don't talk about it lol, and when I do talk about my problems, I am definitely looking for a solution. I even find it frustrating when I rant and the other person doesn't suggest anything. Are you a wall??

Have I watched 2023's edition of The Platform? No, but here's something in the meantime:

Guess who should be doing PR for Ilorin?
This isn't a far fetch from what you'll find though. Horses, trees, streams, people, horses. Not bad, eh?
Well, Twitter specifically because Instagram is for laughs, to say congratulations, and to check if non-Twitter people are still alive.
Another great read!! I really feel you on the social media detox thing though. In my own case I've off FB and Instagram for close to 2yrs now and recently got back to twitter and linkedin after like 6months. Honestly imo, your life is a lot better and a lot of people on social media are just crass. But I sha think some people cannot get off social media due to work/profession e.g influencers, content & marketing (sorry, Cal newport) Also, thanks for the stanford online lecture. Sayonara🤗
